Today, Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Berjaya Hotel in Makati, a few of us - all advocates of #startups in the Philippines came together to agree on building one entity to support startups in the Philippines.
Tentatively called, StartupPH.org, the goal is to serve as an umbrella organization for all stakeholders and supporters of the startup and innovation communities.
It was born out of desire to unite our efforts and create a more efficient and structured program for startups and the startup ecosystem.
What is StartupPH.org?
Good question. We agreed to build one and will continue to work what it will be.
Will it be an advisory committee? An association of startups and supporting groups? Or a hybrid? Stay tuned!
This was the first meeting. It was very exciting to see everyone's passion to do something. With the growth of startups and the new administration looming, we all knew we had to do better.
The new initiative was a result of the startup roadmap discussions held today. This was a continuation of meetings held by the same group behind the Philippine Startup Roadmap which was sponsored by the SeedPH team of Mon Ibrahim of DICT Department of Information Communications and Technology. DICT is formerly known as DOST-ICTO, The ICT office of the Department of Science and Technology.
Today's meeting was facilitated by DICT along with JojoFlores, co-founder of Plug and Play Tech Center and LaunchGarage.com.
Groups who attended were the following, in alphabetical order:
Invited but not onsite were Narra Ventures and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI / SlingshotPH). Some startup founders like Ron Hose of Coins.ph were in the original startup roundtable but were not present at this meeting. We expect other entities interested in supporting startups will be able to get involved with StartupPH.org when a stable initial framework will be established.
Members of StartupPH.org will be connecting with startup founders in their respective domains for inclusion in this new initiative.
Again, we expect other individuals and entities will be joining in as well once the basic framework is established.
We can’t wait to more forward! Thank you in advance for your patience as we get through the initial formation stage of this exciting initiative.

StartupPH.org: Finally charting the future of the startup community with key stakeholders from startups to government, academe, corporate and other sectors. Moving forward to a more structured approach towards an umbrella organization.
Watch out for the launch of the platform for everyone to get involved.
