Event: Startup Weekend Cebu 5
Next Big Event: Geeks on a Beach, Aug. 20-21, 2015 at Boracay. Sign up now for Early Bird discount >>

Startup Weekend Cebu 5 is organized by Techtalks.ph headed by Dulce Lada and The Lemon Collective headed by Timmy de Jesus of JFDI (Singapore Startup Accelerator / Incubator with office in Cebu).

The 5th edition gathered 127 participants. Among the 127, 26 fire pitches were made which went down to 14 selected ideas to be groomed during the 3-day event. As tradition, however wonderful all the product ideas are, only 3 are declared the winners.

The top 3 of the recent Startup Weekend Cebu 5 represent are quite varied: from tee-shirt, to accounting, and to scholarship.

We're uploading their fire pitches as a "BEFORE" reference. We hope this will be a good reminder that all big things may start small or sometimes awkward.

3rd Placer. Teeve, pitched by Chris Torregosa

TeeVee is a t-shirt vending machine.

2nd Placer. SpendCheck by Rachelle Ann Sow.

SpendCheck is a dead simple accounting application for Micro Business Owners. It's not really a unique idea with the many accounting / cash tracker apps. But what makes it unique is that the group took into account the behavior and the "needs" of the small business owners into the workflow of the application.

1st Placer. ScholarField by Kervwin Jorbina.

It's a portal for scholarship grants which aims to make it for both parties, students and sponsors, to find each other.

UP NEXT: Next week, the tally of the 14 pitches and our thoughts.
